10 Tips For Senior Couples While On A Romantic Trip Together

November 28, 2018 | Romance & Relationship | By Amanda Johnson

As a couple who have been together for decades you deserve to break to get out of the monotony and thus go for a romantic holiday together. On a lighter note, As Mark Twain has said, “I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.”

However, there are certain things that you should keep in mind when you plan this trip so here 10 tips for senior couples while on a romantic trip together.

Make A Bucket List

The world is huge and visiting every exotic location is not possible. So make a bucket list that the two of you want to visit together. The ones that should definitely not be missed are:

  • A bird’s eye view of Cappadoccia in Turkey from a hot air balloon
  • Staying at an igloo at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland
  • Paris and everything that it offers
  • A stay at the Lake Palace at Udaipur in India
  • The postcard pretty islands of Santorini in Greece
  • The picturesque villages and tasty seafood at the Amalfi Coast in Italy
  • The sea and the private villas at the Maldives island
  • The gondola ride at Venice
  • The log cabins at Switzerland
  • The beautiful Banff National Park at Alberta in Canada

Decide On The Right Group To Be With

A romantic holiday means one where the both of you can spend some time together in solitude. Hence if you were to book a trip where the group includes families or even singles you might just land up doing a lot of socialising and not get any time to allow romance each other. Also, when you make the booking that advertises couple-only trips you might find that it caters more for the younger generation. Hence, you need to spend some time researching the tour package where you will not only find couples, but those couples who are more like the both of you.

Choose A Holiday That Will Keep Things Romantic

Both of you might still have the adventurous spirit within you and hence might enjoy trips where you have the option to trek, to scuba dive, or even to raft. However, if it is a romantic trip then you should avoid these and instead choose a holiday where the number of activities is not too much but rather focuses on lazing by the pool, couple spa sessions, and resort organised candle light dinners. If you do want to roam the city or town and don’t plan to keep the romance to just indoors then opt for locations where there are museums, art galleries, scenic roadside cafes etc. These are quiet places that will help the both of you to connect with each other.

Pick A Resort That Is Not Meant For Family

When on a romantic holiday with your partner you should ideally opt for resorts that are meant solely for couples. For example the Bear Trail Couples Resort located in Ontario in Canada is known for couples amidst wilderness. Here can enjoy the spa, the Jacuzzi, or just sit in front of the fireplace. It also offers a sumptuous food, facilities for fishing, and even dog-pulled sledges in winter.

Consider The Interest Of Both

Ernest Hemingway was very right – “Never go on trips with anyone you do not love.” While choosing a place always remember that it is a holiday for the both of you. So, when you are going through the brochure you must see that the destination offers places to explore that will be of interest to both. So, over and above a resort that promises romance, the city should have things to do that is fun for both. For instance if one prefers to visit museums and galleries while the other wants to indulge in shopping and local cuisines then a place like Paris should be on the list.

Take Care Of Your Health

You should always remember that you are both at an age where you should be extra careful of your health. So, before you go off on your holiday get a full health check up done, carry all your medicines, get your required immunizations, and have a list of all the emergency numbers in case you need them. Also keep your family informed so that they are aware of your whereabouts. At your age all kinds of food also would not suit the body. So know what you are allergic to, avoid food that is oily or fatty, and keep away from junk food as well. When it comes to having fun, not all the time will be spent on the bed and you will be exploring the place as well. However, while you do so, don’t over exert yourself and wear proper clothes and shoes so that you stay comfortable and well protected.

Don’t Overdrink

While making merry don’t indulge in over drinking – be that in the confines of your room or at the pubs. Not only that make you fall ill, but also getting sloshed would deprive you from getting cosy with your partner.

Keep The Safety Of The Place In Mind

Since both of you are traveling alone it is of utmost importance that you do proper research to determine whether the identified location is safe or not. Added to this bear in mind that you keep your near and dear ones informed of your whereabouts. Carry money and important documents in safety belts, avoid visiting secluded spots after dark. It is advised to keep your valuables at the hotel under lock and key.

Talk A Lot

Maybe your routines are such that you don’t get enough time to sit and enjoy idyllic conversations. Make good use of this holiday and indulge in that. So, instead of all the time trying to explore the place, or even getting pampered at the spa, set out time when you can sit and talk of everything – right from taboo topics to how your journey together had been. This, definitely, will bring the both of you close together.

Plan Well

The trip won’t last forever. So, within the given time you would like to bring in the romance between both of you. And also would like to roam around and see the beautiful location. Hence it is good that you plan your day in advance.

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart” said Confucius. Life is a journey and what we add to our memory box over the years is what counts. So, the both of you should definitely make plans for romantic getaways and keep the love alive in your lives.
