The west has made massive in achieving equal rights for LGBTQ people, this had made it easier for them to come out and look for love without scrutiny. However, the same can’t be said about people on other sides of the world. There are still countries where gay marriage isn’t still recognized, and some others were coming out as gay or having gay relationships is punishable by death.
The digital revolution hasn’t just changed how we match make and look for our soulmates online, it has changed the whole fundamental nature of social networking.
Digital revolution has also played a vital role in the development and organization of the LGBTQ community. It has created an avenue for LGBTQ people to be able to meet with each other, build relationships, share ideas, as well as express, spread and strengthen their political claims. While it has had a huge impact on senior heterosexual couples and relationships, it has also been fundamental in senior LGBTQ relationships for several reasons
Digital revolution has created room for so many LGBTQ people to meet. Research has shown that 70% of LGBTQ couples meet through some form of social media or dating app. LGBTQ+ dating apps very convenient and efficient for building connections and meeting appropriate romantic partners. Rather scrolling through various local matches and waiting to know if they have the same sexual orientation as you, LGBTQ specific services allow members of the community to find who and what they are looking for.
Digital revolution has made room for LGBTQ+ specific dating services that offer more identifiers other than the usual male, female and sometimes transgender. This allows members of the community to know how they identify and what they are looking for.
Digital revolution has given room for the ability to have more options and more specific choices when looking to build connections or seeking a partner. It has created room for people with all manner of interests and beliefs.
Although there are many positives to digital revolution concerning LGBTQ people, there are some less positive aspects that are also important to highlight. Social media and dating apps can sometimes be exclusive. Within the LGBTQ community, there have been accusations of racism and body-shaming on various digital platforms. It is often presented by way of “sexual preference” but has led to some members of the community being excluded.
Digital revolution has greatly impacted dating and building connections in the LGBTQ community. Not only has it changed how members of the community meet and engage, but it has also given more options for meetings, adding variety and allowing everyone to feel comfortable and date while at it.
