Ladies, how much time are you spending on the golf course? Golf isn’t only a game for men anymore. There is an increasing amount of women who are taking to the links. If you’re not a golfer, you might think that the game is all about hitting a ball and chasing after it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Playing a few rounds of golf enables you to enjoy some fresh air while getting some much-needed exercise. Here are seven surprising ways that golf improves the lives of women over 50.

1. Playing Golf Burns Calories

We all know that exercise is essential. Staying in shape is even more crucial as we age. Whatever you do, don’t use a cart while shooting a few rounds. Walk from hole to hole and burn some of the food that you’ve eaten earlier in the day. Walking around the golf course is a great way to lose weight and keep it off.

2. Improve Your Circulation

The flow of blood throughout your body is vital. Walking is a great exercise to improve circulation. Just 30 minutes of walking every day is all you need to maintain healthy circulation. It’s not unheard of for people to spend hours at the golf course and all that walking will do your circulation good.

3. Builds Concentration

It’s easy to find yourself distracted in today’s world of electronic gadgets. Sometimes you need to step away from all of the distractions and work on improving your concentration. Golf will strengthen your concentration because you’ve always got to be on your toes from one shot to the next.

4. Become Sharper Mentally

All of the decision making that you do will pay off when you feel sharper mentally. Your brain needs exercise too, and when you’re over 50, sometimes it doesn’t get enough. If you’re watching TV all day, then your noodle isn’t getting the workout it needs.

5. Relieve Stress by Getting Your Mind off of Things

How awful is it that you sit around all day long stewing over stuff? You find yourself continually thinking about all kinds of things. Give your brain a break and allow it to think of something different. The exercise is excellent for relieving stress, and so is the sunlight. Do yourself a favor and play a little golf to melt the stress away.

6. You’ll Sleep Better After a Day on the Golf Course

Do you have problems getting a good night’s sleep? If so, you probably lack exercise. Playing golf will wear you out and make sleeping a much easier task. Getting your mind off of stress, exercise, and fresh air all help you to sleep better at night.

7. Your Social Skills will Improve

As the years go by, you spend less time with other people. You need to find some way of connecting with people again. It doesn’t matter if it’s when you’re out on the course or in the clubhouse, golf is a great game to get to know people.

8. Grab a Club and Get Chipping Away

Are you still on the fence about taking up golf? You shouldn’t be. Golf is a fun way to get exercise, to improve your health, and to meet new friends. You don’t need to be rich to play golf. There are many public golf courses that offer great deals to everyone. Golf is a game anyone can play, and it doesn’t matter what your skill level is. Hit the green and have the time of your life. There’s a ball with your name on it waiting for you to putt it into the hole.
